Kellie Pickler was born 28 June 1986 to Cynthia Morton Pickler and Clyde Raymond Pickler in Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her birth parents were an aged 16-year-old mother. Pickler suffered a rough childhood due to her addiction to drugs and alcohol dependency, as the mother of her child abandoned her around the age of 2. Morton kept custody of Pickler for a period of two years, but Pickler admitted that things were not going well. "I was sitting in the kitchen with my mom when I stated to her: 'I prefer to die rather than remain in this place.' The woman pulled out a knife, placed it on top of the counter and informed me that, "Here, you do it." Fourth grade. It's a shame that I didn't make a decision based on that. However, it left an emotional mark that will last forever. Court eventually gave Pickler to her grandparents when she was 12 and Morton didn't show to the court session. Pickler was brought up by her grandparents for the rest of her life and cited them as the primary influence in her life. Faye Pickler, the grandmother who cared for her, passed away from lung cancer in 2001. His grandfather was able to care for Pickler. Pickler was a graduate of N Stanly High School, located situated in New London, North Carolina.
